Former Kaimuki High golfer and 2006 state high school champion Chan Kim was the only Hawai'i golfer to advance Tuesday in the U.S. Amateur Public Links golf tournament in Aurora, Colo.

Kim, who resides in Chandler, Ariz., shot even-par 71 Tuesday for a two-round total of 73-71—144, tied for 34th place.

The top 64 players from a field of 155 advanced to match play, which starts Wednesday.

All other Hawai'i missed the cut after two rounds of stroke play at the Murphy Creek Golf Course, which, at 7,551 yards, is longest course in the event's history.

Sean Maekawa of the Big Island shot 8-over 76-74—150 (tie for 94th), Mililani's Jared Sawada shot 75-76—151 (t104th), Wailuku's Taeksoo Kim shot 82-75—157 (t143rd) and Kapa'a's Kellen Watabu shot 82-78—160 (t151st).

Aaron Goldberg of Carlsbad, Calif., shot 65-67—132 to earn medalist honors.

Second and third rounds of match play will be played Thursday, the quarterfinals and semifinals Friday and a 36-hole final on Saturday.

Hawaii golfers have been successful in this event with Casey Watabu winning in 2006, Guy Yamamoto in 1994, Charles Barenaba in 1974 and Randy Barenaba in 1975.
