HONOLULU — Central Pacific Bank is supporting local athletes participating in the Summer Games in Beijing.
All 39 Central Pacific Bank branches statewide will collect funds for Hawai'i athletes through Aug. 31. The money will be used to help offset training expenses, and to defray the costs of their families attending the games. Central Pacific Bank will match every dollar donated, up to $25,000.
"Central Pacific Bank is very proud to recognize the amazing accomplishments of our local athletes, who will be representing our entire country in Beijing," said Clint Arnoldus, president and CEO of Central Pacific Bank. "We'd also like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Clarissa Chun, the daughter of our very own Gail Chun of our Pearlridge branch."
Chun is the first Hawai'i member of the women's wrestling team. The 26-year-old from Kapolei won the women's freestyle wrestling 105.5-pound division at the U.S. Team Trials for wrestling.
To qualify for funds, the athlete must be on the U.S. team, must have graduated from a Hawai'i high school, and have immediate family members residing in Hawai'i.
Funds collected through the branches and Central Pacific Bank's matching funds will be evenly divided among the Hawai'i athletes, who will be presented a check in September.
