TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Saving Grace" season-opener, 7 p.m., TNT. As the first season ended, Grace (Holly Hunter) had finally found the priest who abused her during her childhood. Now a new season starts and viewers are perplexed. What did she do to him? There are no clues at first, as Grace simply drinks and laughs with a friend and then has a wild shoot-out. That's typical of Grace, an Oklahoma City cop. She laughs a lot, drinks a lot, and chases crooks. As played (wonderfully) by Hunter, she's both a playful kid and an enraged, vengeful grown-up. How far did her vengeful and violent side take her after she found her abuser? We'll find out tonight in a strong episode.

TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE

"The Closer" season-opener," 6 p.m., TNT. As flames sweep through Southern California, a body has been found. Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) suspects this was murder, unrelated to the fire.

Still, there are doubts. She must confront Billy Croelick, an arsonist who frustrated her years ago.

As played by Jason O'Mara, Croelick brings a scary charm. He's one person who can unsettle Brenda at work.

At home, everything unsettles her. Transplanted from Atlanta, she has a personal life that's in permanent transition. "The Closer" mixes interesting characters and well-crafted crime stories.

OF NOTE

"China's Stolen Children," 6 p.m., HBO. This disturbing documentary takes us inside the pain of some couples in China. If they haven't received a birth permit for more than one child, they must abort or go into hiding. And now there's a growing trade in people who kidnap and sell children, mostly to families that desperately want a boy. Secretly shot in small Chinese villages, this film finds deep personal pain.

"The Bachelor: Where Are They Now?" 7 p.m., ABC. Last week, DeAnna Pappas chose Jesse Csincsak, a snowboarder. Now they meet one of this show's few successful couples, Trista and Ryan Sutter. Viewers also meet some individuals and one couple from a recent round — Matt Grant, an Englishman, and Shayne Lamas, a third-generation actress.

"How I Met Your Mother," 7:30 p.m., CBS. This show jumps all the way back to the first season's second episode, a good one. After scaring Robin away on their first date by saying he loves her, Ted keeps throwing parties, hoping she'll show up.

"The Mole," 8 and 9 p.m., ABC. A recap hour is followed by a new episode.

"Nashville Star," 8 p.m., NBC. This show is rushing toward its finale now. Last week, it dumped two acts: Tommy Stanley, the likable sailor, and Pearl Heart, a trio that had its best performance shortly before learning it had already lost, via votes from the previous week. Tonight, two more are cut, trimming the field to four.

"Secret Diary of a Call Girl," 7:30 p.m., Showtime; repeats at 8:30 p.m. Last week's episode was a poor one, but it had one plus: Belle (the wonderful Billie Piper) finally told her friend Ben that she's a prostitute. Now the remaining episodes are much better. Tonight she's ignored by Ben, but befriended by a prostitute who joined her for a three-way.
