Arts and Cultural Center receives $250,000 grant

Gov. Linda Lingle has released a $250,000 grant to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center for site preparation, underground utilities and building foundations necessary for renovation and expansion.

The center has undertaken three expansions in recent years. The first two phases were completed in 2003 and 2006, respectively. The third phase will include a pavilion and amphitheater stage, upgraded food and beverage service facilities, a storage area, maintenance building landscaping, gallery improvements and additional parking.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in February 2010 at a cost of $12.8 million.

The nonprofit Maui Arts and Cultural Center, built in 1994, offers art education programs, professional development workshops for teachers, events and performances, and school field trips.
