UH's Robinson on national softball list

University of Hawai'i senior Kate Robinson is one of 50 athletes named to the watch list for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year award.
Robinson, a pitcher and first baseman, is the first UH player to be named to the watch list.
A list of 25 finalists will be announced on April 9. That list will be cut to 10 on May 7 and three on May 21. The player of the year will be announced prior to the Women's College World Series.
Robinson was the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year last season after going 8-0 in conference play. She was 17-1 overall with a 2.01 ERA in 136 innings pitched.
Robinson also set school single-season records with 19 home runs and 72 RBIs, while batting .358.
Previous winners of the national player of the year award include three-time winner Cat Osterman of Texas and last year's winner Monica Abbott of Tennessee.

TRAPASSO AT MPI EVENT
University of Hawai'i head baseball coach Mike Trapasso will be the keynote speaker in the fourth annual Mid-Pacific Institute Athletic Hall of Fame Gala.
The event is Feb. 8 at the Pacific Beach Hotel. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with silent auction and cocktails. Dinner begins at 6:45 with program to follow at 7:45.
The gala also will include a video and the induction of Donny Ma'a (1984) and five Serikaku brothers — George (1953), Frank (1957), Richard (1960), Thomas (1960) and Albert (1964) — to the MPI Hall of Fame.
