Rotary Club members spent their weekend revamping parts of the Institute for Human Services' shelter for families and women in Kalihi.
Volunteers with the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Honolulu made improvements on Saturday to the playground area and family education center.
The work included covering the playground.
"The project creates a place that we've always wanted the younger children to have for play," said IHS Executive Director Connie Mitchell.
Kathleen Rhoads Merriam, of the Rotary Club, said the organization chose IHS to help "because of the great need and impact we will be able to have in only one day for the ... homeless in our community."
