TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE
"Lost," 9 p.m. ABC. This show will tomorrow open its abbreviated, eight-episode season. First, here's a fresh look at last year's terrific — albeit confusing — finale. ABC plans to use the bottom third of the screen to provide text, explaining the background and pointing to clues. The battle between the crash survivors and The Others has disintegrated into warfare. Three survivors — Sayid, Jin and Bernard — prepare a fierce ambush; Jack leads the rest to the radio tower ... and Charlie has a solitary mission. Tied in are some bizarre "flash-forwards" to life off the island. We're stumped by those, but the rest is high-quality, high-octane "Lost."
"Eden at the End of the World," 9 p.m., PBS. Sprawling across Chile and Argentina, the Patagonia region is an awesome wilderness. Now a bank has donated 700,000 acres of it to the Wildlife Conservation Society. This documentary catches spectacular glimpses, ranging from gentle penguins and parrots to giant orcas and seals.
OF NOTE
"Holes" (2003), 6 and 8:30 p.m., ABC Family. Andrew Davis, the gifted director of the "Fugitive" movie, skillfully shifted direction here. Adapting a children's novel, he created a fable with a neatly off-center feel. A boy (Shia LaBeouf) is sent to a detention camp, where the guys simply dig and fill holes. There turns out to be a reason for this madness. Stick with it.
"Deal or No Deal," 7 p.m., NBC. This is what we've come to — a rerun of a game show. This is one from the start of the football season; it has a Colts fan encouraged by some former pro stars.
"A Few Good Men" (1992), 6 p.m., TNT. Here's another chance to see a movie that has it all. Aaron Sorkin ("The West Wing") wrote a smart script, based on his own play and centering on a military trial. Rob Reiner beautifully directed a dream cast. Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nicholson star. In small roles, you'll spot Kiefer Sutherland, Noah Wyle, Kevin Bacon and Cuba Gooding Jr.
"Impossible Escapes," 8 p.m., MyNetwork TV. Magicians and escape artists try stunts and illusions.
"In Treatment," 7:30 and 10 p.m., HBO. Mia Wasikowska gives a fascinating portrayal of a teen gymnastics star who insists she's not trying to destroy herself.
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 8 p.m., NBC. Here's a downbeat, unsettling story. In a rough neighborhood, kids grew up to be earnest honor students — then were inexplicably killed. Logan and Falacci investigate.
"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. Three people are found dead in an apartment. Green and Lupo assume it's a lovers' quarrel gone wrong. Then they find surprises that lead toward powerful politicians.
"CSI:NY," 9 p.m., CBS. In a rerun, blood has been found on the Statue of Liberty's crown. That leads to someone obsessing on killing a famous musician.
