Ledward Ka'apana, an award-winning slack-key (ki ho'alu) instrumentalist, is on stage from 4 to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow for Na Mele No Na Pua, the free concert series at the Embassy Suites Grand Lanai at Waikiki Beach Walk.

The four-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner, who played on a Grammy Award-winning compilation last year and is among the nominees in this year's Grammy competition, is a seasoned musician whose career spans nearly 40 years. Besides his mastery of ki ho'alu, Ka'apana is an accomplished baritone who also boasts a sweet and powerful falsetto.

KEEP YOUR GUARD UP AGAINST LEAD IN TOYS

Don't let the effort to keep your child's toys lead-free fall by the wayside just because the holiday toy-buying season is over. Parenting magazine has this advice: Avoid fake pearls and jelly bracelets, which are manufactured with ingredients including lead; toss metal jewelry you're unsure about; and check the Center for Environmental Health's Web Site, www.cehca.org, for companies that make lead-free products.
