Neil Simon's comedy "Barefoot in the Park" follows the misadventures of a newlywed couple, Corie (Erin Kim) and Paul (Todd Coolidge), left, as they begin life together in a problematic apartment. Film note: Jane Fonda and Robert Redford had the starring roles in the 1967 version. Rob Duval directs the Diamond Head Theatre production.

Usher in the Year of the Rat at the 2008 Night in Chinatown Festival and Parade. The daylong celebration features food, martial-arts demonstrations, crafts, good-luck trinkets, lion dances, fireworks and entertainment of all sorts. The parade begins at 4 p.m. with color guards, bands, Chinese societies, marching units and a 150-foot dragon.

FESTIVAL: FEB. 5

You can party like ... you're in New Orleans at the "Mardi Gras — Carnaval 2008" celebration, a street festival of percussion, samba, music, food and drinks and just a whole lot of indulgence. Two parades are in store — one at 7 p.m. with the Sambanda Batucada & Dance Ensemble, and at 9 p.m. with the Tropikalia Batucada & Dance Ensemble. There are contests for best float and best costume, too. Food is provided by Cassis, Du Vin, Kevin Too Boots, Soul de Cuba, Cafe Joy and Indigo.

STAGE: FEB. 9-10

"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," below, an hourlong, nonmusical adaptation of the book by L. Frank Baum, continues Paliku Theatre's annual mission to present kid-friendly theater based on literary works. Others in the past have include "Charlotte's Web" and "James and the Giant Peach." "Oz" — the tale of Dorothy and her pals and their mission to find her way back home to Kansas — is directed by actor/comic Stan Egi.

DANCE: FEB. 10

The Atamira Dance Collective presents a Maori dance package erupting with history, legends, personal stories and whakapapa (genealogy and tribal links). Atamira's "Ngai Tahu 32" piece incorporates video projection, sound, waiata (traditional song), haka (war dance) and karanga (a woman's call of welcome). Shorter works on the program include "Whakairo," "Kohatu," excerpts from "Memoirs of Active Service" and an opening moteatea chant.

It's a royal smackdown as WWE Raw presents "Road to WrestleMania Tour," featuring Randy Orton and Chris Jericho in the WWE Championship match, Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs. Umaga and Mr. Kennedy for The Return of Degeneration X. There's also "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. William Regal in the Win or Retire match; and Candice Michelle and Beth Phoenix battle in the WWE Women's Championship match. Guests include Jeff Hardy, Carlito, Hardcore Holly, Cody Rhodes, Val Venis and more.

A barbershop quartet, a rose and thee. Once again the nonprofit Sounds of Aloha Chorus offers a sweet treat for your beloved (male or female) to celebrate the most romantic time of all. For a fee, a quartet will present a card, a silk rose and sing two songs at the time and place you specify. This year you can also book online.

CONCERT: FEB. 14

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Kenny Rankin brings his gentle pop to a Valentine's Day concert. Among his career notables: He played guitar on Bob Dylan's 1965 album "Bringing It All Back Home"; and he appeared on Johnny Carson's "Tonight" show more than 20 times. Also, his version of The Beatles' "Blackbird" was a hit with listeners and the Fab Four.

Men in tights? Of course! It's Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, left, the all-male company that spoofs classical ballet in a delightfully comic way. On the program: "Swan Lake," "Vivaldi Suite" and pas de deux or solo pieces to be announced. Les Ballets Trockadero is presented by Ballet Hawaii.

The hottest ticket in town? The Police, whose first concert date sold out in less than three hours, so they added another night. The rock trio — Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers — reached its peak with the 1983 album "Synchronicity," with such hit tunes as "Every Breath You Take," "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "King of Pain." The band members went their separate ways in 1984, but were reunited for a performance at last year's Grammy Awards. Fiction Plane is the opening act for both nights.

"Cisco Kid," "Summer," "The World is a Ghetto," "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends" — these rock/funk hits and more are the domain of the legendary band War, left, which tours three islands. The last time the band was here was at the inaugural Diamond Head Crater Celebration in 2006. A portion the proceeds will go to crater celebration promoter Ron Gibson's nonprofit Diamond Head International Music Festival and Conference.
