TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. The auditions reach San Diego, which is mixed news. The good: Nigel Lythgoe, an "Idol" producer, insists San Diego had the best auditioners. Let's hope so. Last week's shows, in Philadelphia and Dallas, had some promising women, but few guys worth remembering. Still, the judges say guys will dominate this year. And the bad news: Simon Cowell claims he was in a good mood during the first stops, then got grumpier. We're not looking forward to the return of the Evil Simon.

"Frontline: Growing Up Online," 9 p.m., PBS. For some teens, the Internet brings alternate lives. They find "an entire social life ... without having to leave the house," C.J. Pascoe of the University of California says in this film. Jessica Hunter was a shy kid who re-invented herself at 14 as Autumn Edows, a popular goth artist and model. Her parents were unaware until the school principal complained of provocative pictures online.

OF NOTE

"The Fantastic Four" (2005), 5:30 p.m., FX. It's a Julian McMahon evening for this cable channel. Leading into "Nip/Tuck" (where he plays an evil plastic surgeon), we see him as Victor Von Doom, a billionaire toying with nature. The film stars Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis.

"The Biggest Loser," 7 p.m., NBC. A rewards challenge has people competing to get to read letters from home. And a surprise elimination pits one duo against everyone else.

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. When a Marine is killed, Gibbs finds himself working with Lt. Mann (Susanna Thompson). Complicating things is the fact that one of his ex-wives is a witness.

"Don Ho Remembered," 8 p.m. CBS. A tribute to the man who entertained the people of Hawai'i and its visitors for more than 45 years.

"One Tree Hill," 8 p.m., CW/KHON digital 93. Brooke pushes along the launching of her store. Meanwhile, Nathan deals with a difficult basketball player, Peyton with a difficult musician.

"House," 8 p.m., Fox. In a rerun, Cuddy insists Dr. House make a decision about his prospective assistants. He throws them into a tough case involving an uncooperative rock star.

"According to Jim," 8 p.m., ABC. When his wife is out of town, Jim needs the kindness of neighbor women to get his housework done.

"Carpoolers," 8:30 p.m., ABC. Dougie wants to go to a concert so badly that he gets in his first fight with Cindy.

"Boston Legal" (ABC) and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (NBC), both 9 p.m. The ABC story involves stolen semen; the NBC one involves embryos stolen from a sperm bank. In the latter, Benson starts reflecting on her own fertility and biological clock.
