Chris McLachlin, television analyst and former longtime Punahou School coach and administrator, is resting comfortably at Stanford University Medical Center after suffering a stroke Saturday afternoon.

McLachlin was in California to watch the Stanford men's volleyball team play. His youngest son, Spencer, is a freshman for the Cardinal.

McLachlin suffered the stroke prior to Saturday night's match against Pepperdine.

"The right side of his body was paralyzed at first," Spencer McLachlin said last night. "They gave him some medicine and he had feeling (in his limbs) and he could move his right side. He could smile and a little later he could talk."

Spencer said his father is "doing a lot better. Right now he's talking almost like (he's) 100 percent."

McLachlin spent 37 years at Punahou as a coach, administrator, counselor and teacher before retiring last year. He led the Buffanblu's boys volleyball team to 11 state championships and the boys basketball team to three state titles.
