A convicted felon was being held on $1 million bail last night after being charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Kalihi on the day after Christmas.

RJ Ham of Kalihi was charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Ham was free on probation for a previous assault when he allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Fugitogamala Savea through the heart Dec. 26.

Police said Savea was standing with friends on a street corner on North School Street when Ham approached and started an argument that led to the death. The two did not know each other, police said.

Ham, who was convicted of second-degree assault in May 2006, was arrested Wednesday night in Waipahu following a seven-day police search.

BOY, 16, DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR

HILO, Hawai'i — A 16-year-old Kea'au boy died from injuries he suffered when he was struck yesterday morning as he crossed Hawai'i Belt Road at the 8-mile marker in Kea'au.

Kaipo L. Sioloa was crossing the highway headed east when he was struck by a 1990 Toyota driven by a 19-year-old Kea'au man in the outer northbound lane of the highway shortly before 12:12 a.m.

Sioloa was not in a crosswalk and had consumed alcohol before the collision, police said. Speed was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

A fire department crew took Sioloa to Hilo Medical Center, where he died at 8:35 a.m.

'DOG' SIDEKICK HELD IN NAKED INCIDENT

A sidekick of TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman was free on bail last night after being charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.

Tim Chapman, 42, was released on $11,000 bail last night, five hours after he turned himself in to police investigating a report of a naked man in a pickup truck at Ala Moana Center Thursday night.

A security guard who recognized Chapman told him to put on his clothes and get out of the truck, but after putting on his clothes, Chapman started his truck, drove over a sidewalk, nearly hitting the guard, and drove off, police said.

Chapman's attorney, Brook Hart, said it was all a misunderstanding.

"It was simply a man who wet his pants with orange juice inadvertently and was changing them, doing nothing wrong at all and believing he had sufficient privacy to do it," Hart said.

TOURISM EVENT GRANTS AWARDED

Mayor Mufi Hannemann yesterday announced the O'ahu recipients of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority's County Product Enrichment Program grants for 2008, which provides funding to the county governments to support events and projects that stimulate and diversify tourism.

More than 70 applications totalling $2.98 million were submitted to a selection committee for the $425,000 available, he said. The city also awarded 5 grants of $10,000 each through the Mayor's Office of Economic Development for several events.

ANAHOLA, Kaua'i — A 17-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault Wednesday after she allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old Anahola man on his left arm.

The victim was tended by medics and fire personnel at the scene, Kaua'i police said.

The man declined to be taken to the hospital for further treatment and told police that he would go to Wilcox Hospital on his own.

According to witnesses, an argument broke out at the victim's house between the juvenile and the victim at around 1 p.m. The juvenile then allegedly pulled out a knife, stabbed the man and fled.
