DUI arrests up 8 percent on Big Island

Big Island police arrested 17 motorists for drunken driving last week, raising this year's DUI arrest total to 206, an 8 percent increase over the same time last year.
Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.
There have been 288 major accidents so far this year compared with 355 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19 percent.
So far this year, there have been seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with seven during the same period last year.
