Sekiya's Restaurant in Kaimuki shut, permit suspended

The state Department of Health has suspended the permit for Sekiya's Restaurant and Delicatessen.

In a news release, DOH officials said they have temporarily suspended the delicatessen's permit to ensure food safety and sanitation measures will be take place at the restaurant.

A Notice of Permit Suspension was issued Saturday. The restaurant, at 2746 Kaimuki Ave., is temporarily closed to conduct prevention measures.

In December of last year the DOH confirmed six related cases of illness caused by the E. coli bacteria, and another case appeared this month. All victims have recovered, but an investigation concluded that all seven individuals had a history of consuming food prepared at Sekiya's restaurant in Kaimuki.

DOH inspections confirmed the E. coli cases, and follow-up inspections showed all major violations have been corrected. The restaurant has been temporarily closed despite the corrections because of the most recent E. coli case and the threat there may be some lingering bacteria. More safety measures are being taken during the shut down.
