Darfur traveling exhibit displayed on Maui
Advertiser Staff
Camp Darfur, an interactive traveling exhibit, will be at Maui Community College today to raise awareness of the ongoing human-rights violations and genocide taking place in Darfur, Sudan.
Tents resembling refugee housing used to shelter the more than 2.5 million people of Darfur who have been displaced in the conflict will be erected on the campus lawn. The tents will provide displays of the crisis in Darfur and historical events such as the Holocaust and genocides in Armenia, Cambodia and Rwanda. There also will be video clips sharing stories of Darfur refugee camps in Chad.
Gabriel Stauring and Katie-Jay Scott of Stop Genocide, who recently returned from the refugee camps, will speak at 6:30 p.m. in Kalama 104B.
Camp Darfur is sponsored by United Nations Association USA Hawaii, Amnesty International Hawaii, the MCC Political Science Honor Society, the Four Freedoms Forum and the Hawaii Institute for Human Rights.
