Lecture set on China's Longxing Monastery

Puay-Peng Ho will discuss "Monumental Innovation: The Art and Architecture of Longxing" Monastery" in a free lecture at 7:30 Feb. 28 at the Doris Duke Theater.

The monastery, located outside of Beijing, is a complex of extraordinary buildings and sculptures that are the apex of Song Dynasty (960 -1127 AD) architecture.

Ho, chairman of the architecture department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, will delineate the art and architecture of the Longxing Monastery in the contexts of Song Buddhism and art history. He will also compare its innovative achievements with contemporary structures in Japan.
