Waialua Library to host Hawaii authors' night, book sale

The Friends of Waialua Public Library will this month host its 11th annual Authors' Night and Book Sale, featuring local authors making presentations about recently published books.
A pupu reception will precede the authors' presentations and book sales, set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Admission is free.
Among the featured authors will be Caren Loebel-Fried, flying in from New Jersey to participate. Her illustrated book published by Bishop Museum Press, "Lono and the Magic Land Beneath the Sea," won first place in the Kapalapala Po'okela Awards for Excellence in Children's Literature and Excellence in Children's Hawaiian Culture in 2007. Loebel-Fried will describe how she researched and refined her method of illustration. She will also present "Pua Pol'," The Pretty Blue Hawaiian Flower, written by Nona Beamer and illustrated by Loebel-Fried.

Following the authors' presentations, there will be a book sale. Door prizes will also be awarded. Money raised from the book sales will be donated by the Friends of the Library for future purchases.
