Charles "Chip" Fletcher, the state's premier coastal geologist, will speak about "The Impact of Rising Sea Level on Hawai'i" at 3 p.m. today at the University of Hawai'i.

The lecture, in Room 110 of UH's Hawai'i Institute for Geophysics building, is part of the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and Technology "Centennial Lecture Series on the Changing Climate and its Significance to Hawai'i." It is co-sponsored by the UH-Manoa Climate Change Commission.

Sea-level rise is among the impacts projected by climate change. Several leading scientists believe a 1-meter rise in sea levels is likely to happen by the end of the century.

Fletcher is chairman of UH's Department of Geology and Geophysics.
