Grammy winner Daniel Ho, the musician-producer and former Honolulan, will be heard in the soundtrack of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," the film directed by Nicholas Stiller and featuring Jason Segel and Kristen Bell, that was partially shot here.
"It's in the end credit and I'm over the moon," Ho said of his glee. "I can't believe I'm actually singing in a movie — in Hawaiian."
The tune is " 'A 'Ohe Like Me 'Oe ("Nothing Compares 2U," with the Hawaiian translation by Amy Ku'uleialoha Stillman, the Michigan-based ethnomusicologist specializing in Hawaiian music and culture. ...
Meanwhile, watch for the March 4 release of Ho's new CD, "Skies of Blue," an acoustic and inspirational collection of songs that trigger a memory or two. ...
NAMES 'N' FACES: Creating almost as much buzz as the new season of ABC's "Lost," KITV "News This Morning" anchor Mahealani Richardson has shorn her long locks and is now sporting a swank new bob, courtesy of Joe Randazzo of J Salon. Viewers are reportedly stopping her in the streets to sing praises. Even co-anchor Dan Meisenzahl is enamored: "I love the new hip, happening haircut. It's like I'm with a different woman now," he says. ...
Betty Loo Taylor, the jazz pianist, and her colleagues will stage a noontime Wednesday series dubbed "A Lenten Celebration and All That Jazz," tomorrow through March 19 at Kawaiaha'o Church. The Rev. Curtis Kekuna and the Rev. Jon Pak will share Lenten thoughts. Bring a lunch, grab a buddy and be entertained and inspired. ...

Agnes Kimura, the Japan-based slack-key guitarist, is in Hawai'i this week after performing on a Tahiti-Hawai'i cruise. She's in Hilo today, flies home tomorrow. The visit coincided with the announcement of her Hawai'i Music Award win for her "Ho'omana'o — My 30 Years" CD. She'll work in some shopping and meals with friends but will return in March to receive her award and again in August to perform in the 26th Annual Hawaiian Slack Key Festival.
DATELINE VEGAS: Hawai'i's Don Tiki performed at the Las Vegas launch of Hawaiian Tropic Zone restaurant in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood (the former Aladdin), where Carmen Electra, Mario Lopez, Steve Van Zandt of "The Sopranos," Lauren Conrad and Audrina Patridge of "The Hills," Kevin Dillon of "Entourage," former WWE diva Stacy Keibler, Kevin Connolly and Reggie Bush were in attendance.
Don Tiki, of course, was led by Lloyd Kandell, Kit Ebersbach and Tunui Tully, and a local gallery attending, including Arlene Iwamoto, Phyllis Kihara, Myra Rabanal and Lee Hacohen.
Former Honolulan Sherry Shaoling performed with Don Tiki; she's now Los Angeles-based, where her work profile is growing, including an action/sci-fi pilot called "Eve," in which she portrays an alien's quirky roommate. Shaoling expects to return home shortly for Brett Wagner's next project, one of 40 to be entered in the annual Filmaka competition (www.filmaka.com), in which she'll play a beauty queen, with Dion Donahue as a bum. Wagner stirred interest with his "Chief" film, shown at the 2008 Sundance Festival. The Filmaka jurors include Colin Firth, Neil LaBute, John Madden and Kenneth Lemberger. ...
SHORTS OF SORTS: There's a schedule change at the Halekulani's Lewers Lounge, as follows: Pianist Noly Pa'a performs Sundays and Mondays, the duo of Bruce Hamada (bass and vocals) and Jim Howard (keyboards) prevail on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, singer-pianist Tennyson Stevens is featured Saturdays. Jazz prevails Tuesdays through Saturdays; Pa'a renders pop and show tunes during his gig. ...
When Raybern Freitas, a retiree from The Advertiser's composing room, took a Smooth Cruise off California with his grandson Kaimihanano'eau Brede recently, they encountered localite Michael Paulo, who performed with Larry Carlton, Marion Meadows, Boney James, Nick Colionne, Steve Oliver, Paul "Shilts" Weimar, Norman Brown, Alan Hewitt, Althea Rene, Chieli Minucci, Acoustic Alchemy and Paul Taylor. Brede, a recent Brigham Young University Hawai'i grad, formerly was with the group Mighty J, and is in the midst of organizing a combo called Lo'ihi. Grandpa nudged Brede to audition aboard ship at a midnight jam, and grandson got a standing ovation. ...
