The University of Hawai'i at Hilo student association is calling on their school to buy more food from local farmers.
The association this month unanimously approved a resolution demanding that all UH-Hilo food-service providers and vendors be required to buy local food.
The students noted their campus is located on an island with many farms. They also say food diversity and sustainability is vital to the security of an island state.
The association suggested the school create a farmers market on campus. They say it would help students buy fresh, local produce.
