UCLA tops No. 4 UH in water polo

Jillian Kraus scored four goals as top-ranked UCLA pulled away in the second half to beat fourth-ranked Hawai'i, 15-10, yesterday in the Stanford Invitational at Palo Alto, Calif.

Brittany Rowe and Katie Rulon each added three goals for the three-time defending national champion Bruins (8-0), who led 6-5 at the half.

Kelly Mason scored four goals for the Rainbow Wahine (4-1), who play Michigan today in their final round-robin match of the tournament.

Earlier in the day, Emily Cox scored with 1:26 to play as the Rainbow Wahine edged seventh-ranked San Jose State, 10-9.

Kelly Mason and Leoni Van Der Molen each scored three goals for UH. Juliet Moss, Beth Harberts and Adrianna Vogt scored two goals apiece for the Spartans (5-2).


SOFTBALL

UH SWEEPS CU

Kate Robinson pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as host Hawai'i beat Chaminade, 14-0, yesterday in a scrimmage.

Melissa Gonzalez and Jessica Morton teamed on a four-hitter with six strikeouts as UH won yesterday's second game, 10-0, to complete a sweep of a three-scrimmage series.

UH won 15-0 on Friday behind Courtney Baughman's two-hit pitching over 5 1/3 innings.

Robinson, a senior All-America pitcher/first baseman, batted 7 for 8 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in the series.


TENNIS

OREGON EDGES UH

Despite winning the top three singles matches, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell to Oregon, 4-3, yesterday at Fresno, Calif.

Dennis Lajola defeated Marco Verdasco, 6-2, 6-1; Andreas Weber beat Francisco Gallardo, 6-2, 6-1, and Sascha Heinemann defeated Geoff Embry, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, for the Rainbow Warriors (1-7).

Hawai'i lost the other three singles matches and dropped the doubles point when it lost two of three matches.
