Author to speak on scriptures

Richard B. Hays, a New Testament scholar, will present a free series of talks on "Israel's Scriptures through the Eyes of the Gospel Writers," part of the 29th Britt Lecture Series.
The lectures are at 7 p.m., beginning Friday and continuing Feb. 16-17 at First United Methodist Church, 1020 South Beretania St.
A one-hour discussion session will follow each lecture.
Hays is the chair of the biblical division at Duke Divinity School in North Carolina and author of "The Moral Vision of the New Testament: Community, Cross, New Creations."
Also, there will be a free workshop at 9 a.m., Feb. 18, also at the church.

NEWSWEEK EDITOR AT PUBLIC FORUM
Elise Soukup, Newsweek magazine associate editor, is coming to the BYU-Hawai'i campus for several events next week.
Besides a public forum at 4 p.m. Monday, she'll also be part of a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Tuesday on "Religion, Media and Politics," looking at Mitt Romney's now-withdrawn campaign for the presidency. Other panelists will be BYUH professors Dale Robertson and Ethan Yorgason, as well as Jack Hoag.
The events will be held in the BYUH Aloha Center, room 155/165.
