The Hawaiian Telcom Great Aloha Run dominates the Presidents Day weekend with an expo, keiki run and circus party and the run itself.

Details:

  • The Sports, Health & Fitness Expo is a family-friendly event featuring six zones of activities. Hours: 4-9 p.m. Feb. 15, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Feb. 16, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. It's free for runners, who must pick up their packets, and those 12 and younger and 65 and older; otherwise, $4 general, $2 military. Sponsored by The Honolulu Advertiser.

  • Silverstreaks Sunrise Walk, 7:30 a.m. Feb. 16, Ala Moana Beach Park. For those 55 and older. Numbers will be distributed at 6:45 a.m., warm-up at 7:15 a.m.; meet at McCoy Pavilion. Entry fee: $20.

  • Kraft Hawaii Keiki Run & Circus Party, from 8 a.m. Feb. 16. Includes a run around McKinley High School and the Blaisdell Center and a post-run party. Fee: $18 children, $6 adults.

  • Hawaiian Telcom Great Aloha Run — 8.15 miles from Downtown to Aloha Stadium — begins at sunrise Feb. 18. Entry fee: $45 at the expo.

    The Huun-Hurr-Tu Throat singers, above, bring the unique sounds of their native Republic of Tuva (between Mongolia and Siberia). In throat-singing, the vocalist is able to produce two pitches at once — in musical pieces reflecting the pastoral landscapes of Tuva — in perhaps one of the world's oldest art forms.

    Nightlifers will recall that "Big Tom" Lombardo was a prolific promoter of gay-oriented parties in town until he and partner Little Tom moved back to the Mainland a few years ago. Now Big Tom is presenting The Aloha White Party, a fundraiser for Gregory House programs and The Foodbasket. Attendees are encouraged to wear much white as they're entertained by DJ Cary Stringellow and the over-the-top performance artist Flava. The party is for those 21 and older.

    Kamehameha Schools' 78th annual Ho'olaule'a offers a full day of entertainment (by Pilioha, right, LT Smooth, Kaukahi, Kalapana, Maunalua and others), lots of food, keiki games and activities, a teen sound stage, Country Store and silent auction — and everyone's invited. Park for free at Kapalama Elementary, Damien Memorial and designated on-campus sites; catch free shuttles at Damien and the corner of School Street and Kapalama Avenue to the campus.

    The acoustic and electric blues trio Hot Tuna brings its strumming skills to Hawai'i for a four-show tour. During "An Evening With Hot Tuna," band members Jorma Kaukonen, Barry Mitterhoff (left) and Jack Casady will perform hits from a career that has spanned more than three decades and produced more than two dozen albums.

    STAGE: MARCH 7-15

    The comic genius of the late Rap Reiplinger takes center stage in "Rap's Hawaii," the next production by the Honolulu Theatre for Youth. This is a collection of Rap's family-friendly antics, compiled by playwright Lee Cataluna, who also is a columnist for The Advertiser. Charles Timtim, right, stars. The show is suggested for those 10 and older.

    A whole lot of Ween is expected at a concert titled "An Evening With Ween" — that's because there's no opening act and the indie fave is known for its tendency to play long into the night. Ween, led by the duo of Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman, known as Dean and Gene Ween, has released 22 albums since 1984, and has a considerable underground following.
