Sylvia Earle kicks off 2nd series of 'Green' lectures

The second "Focus Green Lecture Series" kicks off Feb. 26 with oceanographer, explorer and author Sylvia Earle.
All events will be held at 6 p.m. at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Admission is $5; students are free. Proceeds will be donated to the Maui Coastal Land Trust.
Earle, who has been called a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress and was Time magazine's first "Hero for the Planet," has led more than 50 underwater expeditions and set the women's depth record for solo diving at 3,300 feet. She is former chief scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Other speakers in the series are Bill Nye the Science Guy, host of an Emmy Award-winning educational television program, March 4; Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning of Tesla Motors, which produces electric sports cars, March 11; Amory Lovins, founder of Rocky Mountain Institute, the nonprofit research and consulting firm founded to foster the efficient and sustainable use of resources, March 18; and Suzanne Malec-McKenna, Department of Environment commissioner for Chicago, March 25.
