Irma Kmitaite-Smith scored 17 points and the New Mexico State Aggies pulled away in the second half to beat the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine, 71-53, last night in a Western Athletic Conference women's game at Las Cruces, N.M.

Anikia Jawara added 15 and Sherell Neal contributed 10 for New Mexico State, which improved to 15-5 overall and 5-2 in the WAC.

Saundra Cariaga scored 16 points and Tanya Smith added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Rainbow Wahine, who fell to 8-12 and 2-5.

Leading 27-24 at halftime, the Aggies pulled away by hitting 17 of 27 shots (63 percent) after intermission, while UH struggled with 9-of-27 (33.3 percent) shooting and was outscored 44-29.

The Aggies also scored 22 points off 21 UH turnovers and got 37 points from its bench players, while the UH bench contributed 15 points.
