KAHULUI, Maui — A gunman grabbed cash and jewelry during an armed robbery

yesterday at the Pacific Fish Market on Ho'ohana Street.

The unidentified robber, wearing gloves and a blue bandanna to cover his face, entered the store at about 6:24 a.m. and demanded money from one of the workers, according to Lt. John Jakubczak of the Maui Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division. The employee pointed toward the store's two cash registers and the gunman took at total of approximately $600 from both registers, placing the money into a large bag.

He also fired two shots into a glass jewelry case and used the butt of his handgun to smash another jewelry case, removing items from both, Jakubczak said.

The gunman drove off toward the Wakea Avenue intersection in a white pickup truck. He was described as 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet in height and weighing 200 pounds with a stocky build. The man was wearing a thick camouflage army jacket, blue pants and a white baseball cap, and also had thick, long, black hair, although the hair could have been a wig, Jakubczak said.
