Iolani freshman Lorens Chan today earned the amateur spot in the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Chan recorded a birdie on the first playoff hole to beat Manoa Cup champion Travis Toyama and Alex Ching.

Chan, Toyama and Ching each shot shot 5-under-par 67s at Waialae Country Club to tie for the top spot, forcing a playoff.

Twelve amateurs played for one shot.

The Sony Open in Hawaii will be played Jan. 15-18.
