CFB: Utah's Whittingham gets 5-year, $6M extension

NEW ORLEANS — Utah coach Kyle Whittingham has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $6 million.
The deal was announced Monday in New Orleans, where the Utes (12-0) are preparing to face Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on Friday night.
Whittingham was the Mountain West Conference coach of the year and a finalist for several national coach of the year honors. He has won 36 games in four years as Utah's head coach, including three bowl games.
Whittingham was Utah's defensive coordinator from 1995-2004 before replacing Urban Meyer.
