High surf advisory for east shores extended to Friday

Advertiser Staff

A high surf advisory has been extended until 6 p.m. Friday by the National Weather Service for the east shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and the Big Island.

Surf along east shores will be 6 to 8 feet today, bring rip currents and creating beach erosion.

Surf will be 3 to 5 feet today along north-facing shores, 1 to 3 feet along west shores and 2 feet or less along south shores.

Fresh trade winds over, and east of, the islands will generate rough and choppy surf along east facing shores for the next couple of days. Small swells from both the north-northeast, and from the northwest, will build on Friday, and linger into the weekend. A moderate west-northwest swell is expected late Tuesday.

Otherwise, no significant swells are expected.
