CFB: Sex charges against ex-WVU player dropped

BENWOOD, W.Va. — Sexual assault charges against West Virginia University freshman running back Mark Robert Sampson Jr. have been dropped.
The Wheeling News-Register reports that Marshall County Magistrate William Anderson on Tuesday dismissed four counts of sexual assault against the 18-year-old Glen Dale native and 19-year-old Carson Dale Koontz of Moundsville.
Both men were charged after a 17-year-old woman told police they picked her up from a party on Nov. 23 and forced her to have sex with them in a parking lot.
Defense attorneys said the sex was consensual.
Calls to magistrate court and the men's attorneys weren't immediately returned Wednesday.
After the charges were filed, head football coach Bill Stewart dismissed Sampson from the team "for a violation of team policy." He did not elaborate.
