Part of Kunia Road will remain closed for weeks
Kunia Road will remain closed in both directions for six to eight weeks between Lyman Road and the entrance of the Kunia Tunnel while crews repair damage caused by a recent water main break, the state Department of Transportation said yesterday.
Contractor Goodfellow Brothers Inc. was scheduled to begin excavation of the road yesterday to inspect the structural integrity of the soil base beneath it. After that, the slope will be cleared and the soil base rebuilt.
The soil base was severely eroded when a water main broke during heavy rains Dec. 10 and 11, requiring an emergency closure.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes such as H-2 Freeway and Kamehameha Highway.
