Horner succeeds Dods at FHB

First Hawaiian Bank President and CEO Donald Horner will take over as chairman of the bank's board of directors, replacing Walter Dods, who had held the post since 1989.

The move, effective Dec. 31, is part of a continuing transition at the state's largest commercial bank. Horner 58, had replaced Dods as First Hawaiian's chief executive officer in 2005.

Dods, 67, will remain a member of the bank's board of directors and its executive committee. He joined First Hawaiian Bank in 1968 as director of advertising and public relations. Dods rose through the ranks and in 1984 became bank president. In 1989, was named chief executive officer.


TARGET HOLDING 4-DAY JOB FAIR

Target Corp. is launching a four-day job fair tomorrow to hire 1,200 people to staff its two O'ahu stores scheduled to open in March.

Target is holding the event from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hawai'i Convention Center. The company said it will make same-day job offers to as many people as it can for positions at the stores it is opening in Kapolei and Salt Lake.

The interview process can take one to three hours, according to a news release from Target. Having a resume is helpful, but not necessary. Many of the jobs start Jan. 15.

Target says it plans to hire another 400 employees in May for a store on the Big Island.


LAB OPENS HAWAI'I KAI OFFICE

Diagnostic Laboratory Service Inc. said it has opened a new office in Hawai'i Kai to meet the demand of the area's growing population.

The facility is in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, and is one of 22 offices on O'ahu and 12 on the Neighbor Islands.

Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc., the state's largest locally owned clinical testing laboratory, offers a comprehensive range of forensic toxicology and substance abuse testing services.

The company employs more than 600 people and has locations throughout Hawai'i, Guam and Saipan.


WAIHEE TO BE LAW FIRM COUNSEL

Former Gov. John Waihee has joined the Dubin Law Offices as senior adviser and counsel to the firm.

Waihee, 62, was governor from 1986 to 1994. He also served as lieutenant governor and was a member of the state House of Representatives. He received his law degree from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa in 1976.


ISLAND AIR OFFERS HOLIDAY FARE

Island Air is offering a special $54 one-way holiday fare on all of its interisland routes for travel through Dec. 31. Tickets must be purchased by tomorrow.

Island Air offers flights between O'ahu and Maui (Kahului and Kapalua), Moloka'i, Lana'i, Kaua'i and the Big Island (Hilo and Kona) International Airport). Island Air also offers flights between various Neighbor Island cities.

Island Air operates 414 flights weekly on its fleet of 37-passenger Dash 8 turboprop aircraft.

"Island Air's routes exist because of the smaller communities we serve," said Les Murashige, Chief Operating Officer.

"We recognize many residents depend on our direct and connecting service to visit family and do business."
