Grants

  • The National Council on Aging, three-year $300,000 grant to the state Executive Office on Aging to improve elders' access to the Stanford Chronic Disease Self Management Program.

  • The Hawai'i Tourism Authority, $100,000 to 'Iolani Palace toward marketing initiatives.

  • Office of Hawaiian Affairs, $10,000 to Ka Mamalahoe Canoe Club & Foundation toward the training of paddlers and coaches in first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator training.

  • 2008 Mercedes-Benz Championship, $300,000 proceeds to Boy Scouts of America — Maui County Council, Friends of the Children's Justice Center, Hale Makua, J. Walter Cameron Center, Ka Lima O Maui, Lahainaluna High School Foundation and Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation.

  • Nan Inc. has funded eight scholarships at the University of Hawai'i College of Engineering.

  • Hawaii Western Management Group, $20,000 to Hawaii Foodbank, collected through donations and fundraisers.

  • Office of Hawaiian Affairs, $24,999 to the American Lung Association of Hawaii for an asthma management program for parents and guardians of Native Hawaiian children.

  • Tilker Medical Research Foundation, $25,000 to Dr. Richard Allsopp to further his stem cell research with mice at John A. Burns School of Medicine.

  • Office of Hawaiian Affairs, $25,000 to Hawai'i Construction Career Days, an event held annually at Honolulu Community College.

  • First Hawaiian Bank REHAB Golf Challenge, $258,825 toward scholarships for hospital personnel to further their studies and for patient financial aid.

  • The Carl and Hildgund Bucky Foundation, $5,000 to Alzheimer's Association, $2,500 to Habilitat and $2,500 to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

  • U.S. Department of Labor, Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program and Veterans' workforce Investment Program, $278,000 to Network Enterprises Inc.; $200,000 to United States Veterans Initiative.

  • Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, Atlas Insurance Agents, Insurance Factors, Jerry Hay Inc. and Servco Insurance Services, $35,840 to the Honolulu Fire Department toward purchase of a new rescue boat with trailer, two outboard engines, navigational electronics and gear.

  • Among the local businesses donating more than $280,000 this year to Nature Conservancy of Hawaii's Corporate Council for the Environment are: Alexander & Baldwin, Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., Maui Land & Pineapple, Monsanto Fund, Outrigger Enterprises, The Shidler Family Foundation, Skyline Eco-Adventures, ABC Stores, AES Hawai'i, Atlantis Submarines, Bank of Hawaii, Blue Planet Software, Dowling Company, First Hawaiian Bank, Hula Grill, First Insurance Company of Hawai'i, Goodfellow Brothers, Haleakala Ranch Company, Kuki'o and Macy's West.
