The bridge on Farrington Highway near Kili Drive, directly before Makaha Surfing Beach, was closed tonight because of uncertainty over the structural integrity of the bridge, said Police Lt. Jeffrey Bruchal.

"Water was overflowing and debris was collecting" at the bridge, he said.

Bruchal said a crew was assessing the situation and had determined that it should be OK to open the bridge back up, he said.

He said the bridge would be opened around 8:45 p.m.

"We're going to be contraflowing one side of the bridge so traffic can go back and forth."

He said that Kili Drive leading to the Makaha Towers would remain closed.
