LONDON — Madonna won a court battle yesterday against a British tabloid that recently published pictures of her wedding eight years ago.

The one-time Material Girl won a judgment against a British tabloid she accused of breaching her privacy and copyright by publishing pictures of her 2000 wedding to film director Guy Ritchie. The victory came a few weeks after she was granted a preliminary divorce from Ritchie.

Madonna, who says the pictures were stolen from her by an interior designer in California, is seeking damages in excess of 5 million pounds (more than $7.4 million) from the publishers of the Mail on Sunday newspaper.

LEDGER HONORED POSTHUMOUSLY

MELBOURNE, Australia — The Australian Film Institute has posthumously given a best-actor award to Heath Ledger for his performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight."

Ledger's father, Kim; mother, Sally; and sister Kate accepted the award in ceremonies held Saturday night in Melbourne.

The Australian Film Institute said: "It was this swaggering, psychopathic clown that turned his career into a legacy and the name Heath Ledger into an ongoing inspiration for actors everywhere."

Ledger's performance in the Batman blockbuster is seen as having a solid chance for a posthumous Academy Award for best supporting actor.

SHOOTING SUSPECTS TURN SELVES IN

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Police say two people wanted for questioning about the shooting of actor Mark Ruffalo's brother have turned themselves in.

Beverly Hills police say the pair, Shaha Mishaal Adham and Brian Scofield, turned themselves in yesterday.

Adham is suspected of shooting Scott Ruffalo a week ago. Authorities had issued an attempted murder warrant for his arrest.

Scofield is being held on a misdemeanor traffic warrant.

Authorities did not release an update on Scott Ruffalo's condition yesterday.

NEW DIRECTOR FOR 'TWILIGHT' SEQUEL

LOS ANGELES — "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke won't be back for "New Moon," the sequel to the hit teen vampire romance.

Summit Entertainment, which released "Twilight" last month, says the scheduled release of "New Moon" in late 2009 or early 2010 conflicts with Hardwicke's desired planning time. The film, based on the second book in Stephenie Meyer's series, continues to follow the relationship between vampire Edward Cullen and high schooler Bella Swan.

Hardwicke had the highest opening ever for a female director when "Twilight" made nearly $70 million in its first weekend.

NBC SIGNS LENO FOR A NEW SHOW

NEW YORK — The New York Times is reporting that NBC has signed its late-night star Jay Leno to a contract that will keep him at the network and move him to prime time.

Under the new deal, Leno, whose "Tonight" show hosting job will go to Conan O'Brien, would have a new show airing 10 p.m. Eastern every weeknight.

The deal reportedly will be announced today.
