SALEM, Ore. — Willamette University women's basketball coach Bruce Henderson collapsed at Monday's practice and later died from the apparent heart attack.
The 47-year-old head coach was in his fourth season at the Division III school in Salem. A game scheduled for Tuesday night was canceled, and the team won't resume competition until after the holiday break.
A memorial is scheduled for Sunday in Cone Field House.
Henderson played basketball at Willamette, graduating in 1984 with an economics degree. He was an assistant coach at Oregon State and Portland State before taking the head coaching job at his alma mater.
Willamette has two Hawai'i players on its team — Tiana Abbley (Kamehameha '08 of Honolulu) and Dayna Jandoc ('Iolani '08 of Honolulu).
