HPR to broadcast weekly presidential address

Hawaii Public Radio, KIPO 89.3, will begin carrying the weekly presidential address and opposition response beginning this Saturday, Dec. 13.

President and General Manager Michael Titterton said airing the address will result in the preemption of a brief segment of "Weekend All Things Considered."

The Presidential Address will begin at 12:06 p.m., and will be followed at its conclusion by the opposition response. Recently, the opposition response has been delivered by President-Elect Barack Obama.

The length of both addresses is not set, and they vary in length from week to week. The longest they can run, however, will be to 12:19 p.m., by which time KIPO will resume scheduled programming.

"It seems only appropriate that at least one broadcaster in Hawaii carry these addresses, which are of interest to the general public," Titterton said, "We are happy to make them available as a public service."

In addition to being heard on Oahu at 89.3, KIPO can also be heard on line at hawaiipublicradio.org, and on Oceanic Cable Television digital channel 865.
