CFB: Idaho wrongly billed for coaches' spouses tickets to Hawaii

Associated Press

MOSCOW, Idaho — The University of Idaho was wrongly billed $8,300 for airplane tickets to fly the spouses of 11 coaches to a football game in Hawaii last month.

An athletic department employee made travel arrangements for the Nov. 22 game, booking tickets for the football team and other university employees on a commercial flight after a charter flight fell through.

Lloyd Mues, vice president for university finance, says the spouses of Vandal coaches have previously rode for free on charter flights to games. They were mistakenly included when the employee purchased tickets on a commercial flight.

Mues says coaches are allowed to take a family member to one away game each year under NCAA regulations, but the university can't pay for the travel expenses of someone who is not an employee.

A Vandal booster has offered to cover the $8,370 that was wrongly billed to the university.
