Tequila, anyone?
Compadres Bar & Grill, known for having the largest selection of tequilas in the Pacific, will celebrate its annual Tequila Fest from Sept. 1 through 15, culminating with Mexican Independence Day.
Menu specials, prepared by Chef Raul Puga, will be available the entire month, including the signature Oyster Shots that were called "one of the top 10 finds in the world" by travel writer Horace Sutton.
Salad-of-the-month will be the Margarita Prawn Fiesta Salad, with large Gulf prawns marinated in Compadres' original margarita and then grilled in their shells and topping a salad of chopped romaine, crisp tortilla strips, fiesta rice and fresh mango salsa.
Among the entrees: Huajolote Especial, a turkey tenderloin steak marinated in Hornitos Tequila de Sauza, spices and a bit of garlic olive oil before grilling, served with rice over a roasted balsamic and tequila red onion glaze, roasted seasonal vegetables and mushrooms and an orange-chipotle sauce on top; and Pollo Cabo Wabo, a Compadres favorite, with pan sauteed chicken breasted topped with a sauce of chipotle chile, Cabo Wabo Tequila, heavy cream and spices served with black beans, fiesta rice, and warm zucchini salsa.
Available daily during the Tequila Fest: Rick's Tequila Fountain of Pain, from 4 to 7 p.m., with $5 shots. Paddle shots will be $15 daily from 11 a.m., with the tequila of the day featured.
Many other specials are available, with music by Kalaeloa from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3 and Sept. 10 and Guidance/Free Sounds from 9 p.m. to midnight Sept. 6 and 12.
