Hedwig, Hedwig ueber alles!
The loveable transexual and aspiring rock star with a story of love and immigration gone awry (and in the bizarrest of ways) is scheduled for a Honolulu comeback in October.
With mono-monikered Otto taking the lead role of East Berlin escapee Hedwig Schmidt — and bringing to it the very best in wig art — "Hedwig and The Angry Inch" is fast becoming a regular must-see event. Otto and crew staged the musical last year (and in 2002 before that) to enthusiastic crowds, prompting this year's encore production.
"Hedwig and the Angry" inch plays October 27 through Nov. 2 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre. Tickets are $20 ($15 for academy members) and go on sale Sept. 1 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 through 30 and Nov. 1; 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 as part of the academy's monthly Art After Dark event; and at 4 p.m. on Nov. 2.
