Add more books to your collection at Kaimuki Public Library's Bookzilla, a monstrously large book sale. Be prepared to browse through thousands of titles, from fiction to nonfiction, for children and adults. Also for sale will be CDs, LPs, DVDs, videos and audiobooks. All funds raised from the sale go to new equipment for the library.

FESTIVAL: AUG. 30-31

The smell of andagi will be in the air at the annual Okinawan Festival. The event, in its 26th year, is more than just standing in line to get your fried-doughnut fix. There will be cultural exhibitions, keiki activities, shopping and food booths, performances and a bon dance, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 30. There's a $1 shuttle from and to Kapi'olani Community College, too.

STAGE: SEPT. 4

Army Community Theatre opens its 2008-09 season with "Oliver," based on the Charles Dickens classic. The story is about Oliver Twist, who runs away from an orphanage, makes new friends and learns from his mentor, Fagin, to pick pockets. Music and lyrics were written by Lionel Bart, who won the Tony Award in 1963 for Best Original Score. Army Community Theatre's production stars Lucas Cusick as Oliver, right.

FESTIVAL: SEPT. 6

Eat your way through Kalihi at this year's A Taste of Kalihi, right. It's really a block party along Colburn Street near Dillingham Plaza with food, games, community and business booths, activities for the keiki, entertainment and more. There will also be a Kalihi Backyard BBQ Cookoff and Hawai'i's Largest Electric Slide Dance, too. Proceeds will go to the Kalihi-Palama Health Center.

COMEDY: SEPT. 10

Comedian Tommy Davidson, below, returns to Honolulu for two performances. Davidson, an original cast member of TV's "In Living Color," has starred in numerous films, including "Juwanna Man" and Spike Lee's "Bamboozled," as well as three Showtime specials. He also provided the voice for Oscar Proud, the father in the Disney animated series "The Proud Family."

STAGE: SEPT. 12-14

"The Three Phantoms Return!" for three concerts. Kevin Gray, Craig Schulman and Cris Groenendaal have all donned the iconic mask on Broadway or in the national tour of the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. They last performed in Hawai'i in 2006 to a sold-out crowd.

CONCERT: SEPT. 13

Reggae and dancehall legend Junior Reid, right, is back for a concert at Pipeline Cafe. Known for his hit "One Blood," Reid last performed in the Islands in 2005; since then he has been collaborating with some of hip-hop and R&B's hottest acts, including Alicia Keys (a reggae-influenced remix of her single "No One"). Hot Rain, Ooklah The Moc, DJs Liloa Dunn and Pacific Sounds Outernational are opening acts.

FESTIVAL: SEPT. 13-14

Pack up the 'ohana and head for the Re-discover Kailua Family Festival. This year's two-day event is themed "E Hoe Aku i Ka Wa'a - Paddle the canoe, keep moving forward!," and features food, entertainment, games, rides and free movies on a big outdoor screen. The festival is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu, the Mayor's Office of Economic Development, and the Kailua Mustangs Pop Warner Association.

CONCERTS: SEPT. 19-20

Singer, songwriter and former Chicago frontman Peter Cetera opens the Honolulu Symphony's Toyota Pops 2008-09 season. Cetera wrote and sang some of the biggest rock and pop hits of the past 40 years, so expect to hear classic Chicago hits such as "You're the Inspiration" and "If You Leave Me Now," as well as some of his solo hits including "Glory of Love," the theme to the movie "The Karate Kid, Part II." The symphony is directed by maestro Matt Catingub, in his 10th season as pops conductor.

CONCERTS: SEPT. 26-28

Playhouse Disney pop TV stars The Doodlebops, left, are making their concert debut in Honolulu next month. The brightly colored trio — Deedee, Rooney and Moe Doodle — have their own spot during the Disney Channel's block of preschooler programming and have also been taking their show on the road in the United States and Canada. Unlike other touring children's shows, "Doodlebops Live!" features the real Doodlebops: Lisa J. Lennox is keytarist (keyboard guitarist) Deedee Doodle; Jonathan Wexler is drummer Moe Doodle; and Chad McNamara is guitarist Rooney Doodle.
