Deadline nears for Hawaii voter registration

Island residents are being reminded that Thursday is the last day for new voters to register in the primary election.
The state Office of Elections says completed voter registration forms must be turned in at the appropriate city/county clerk by 4:30 p.m. or postmarked by midnight if mailed.
In order to register, a person must be a resident of Hawai'i, a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old.
Registered voters who have charged their name or moved since the last election should reregister before the deadline.
The primary election is Saturday, Sept. 20.
