Aveda spa in Ala Moana Center is introducing the Green Science line of skin-care products made with argan oil — derived from the nut of the argan tree and made only by the Berber women of Essaouira, Morocco — 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. For $45, spa-goers can sign up for a 45-minute "private ritual" to test the products, then leave with a bag of Aveda favorites worth $45. Reservations: 947-6141.

SAVE OUR PLANET

FUN, EDUCATIONAL BOOK FOR KIDS

Color me green — right here in the Islands. With the help of Crayola, keiki can get up close and personal with the history, wildlife and agriculture of our delicate piece of real estate in the middle of the Pacific. Check out "Sir Newton's Color Me Hawai'i (paperback)," which has drawings of humpback whales, the nene goose and flowers. And 10 percent of the sales goes to the local Rotary Club for children's programs.

FINAL WORD

"You can always tell after a rain that the water is just not right. ... Many years ago, I surfed right into a dead cat on the day after Halloween that was on the inside at Bowls — not to mention the stuff that used to float out there. We even saw a Lazy Boy chair float by one time!"

Jeannie Chesser, O'ahu artist and surfer, in FreeSurf Magazine's green issue
