DOD gives Hawaii U.S. Attorney top award

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo was given the Seven Seals Award by the U.S. Department of Defense for his outstanding achievement, initiative and support of the seven U.S. military reserve branches.

The award, issued by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, is the only one that transcends both the employer awards and volunteer programs given by the agency. Kubo was given his award at a ceremony at Hickam Air Force Base on Saturday.

In 2007, Kubo launched the "Operation Mahalo" awards to recognize Hawai'i employers with certificates for their patriotism while guard and reservists are activated.

The agency's mission is to educate, develop and promote a culture where all American employers can support the role reservists play in U.S. national security. Previous recipients of the award are Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Iowa Gov. Chet Culver, L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Kenai, Alaska Mayor Pat Porter.
