Beach group to get props from mayor today

Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii will be one of the organizations recognized by Mayor Mufi Hanneman in a 12:30 p.m. ceremony today the Mayor's conference room at Honolulu Hale, 3rd floor, room 306, honoring the work of volunteers who have helped keep beaches clean.
Last Saturday, B.E.A.C.H. volunteers removed 4150 pounds of marine debris, including 3,000 pounds of nets and rope, from Kahuku Beach. Of the more than 15 000 pieces of debris collected, 86 percent was plastic.
Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawai`i (B.E.A.C.H.) is a non-profit, volunteer organization concerned with bringing awareness and solutions to the problem of marine debris and litter on Hawaii's beaches through litter prevention campaigns, beach cleanups and environmental education.
