Baseball: 2 Rays minor leaguers suspended 50 games for drugs

Associated Press

NEW YORK — Two minor leaguers in the Tampa Bay Rays system were suspended 50 games each after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.

The commissioner's office said today that outfielder Cesar Guillen tested positive for Ephedrine and infielder Victor Henriquez tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol.

Both players are with Tampa Bay's team in the Dominican Summer League. The suspensions took effect immediately.

The 19-year-old Guillen was hitting .340 with two homers, 34 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 51 games. The 22-year-old Henriquez was batting .250 with no homers, 17 RBIs and 12 steals in 44 games.

Their penalties increased the total to 14 minor leaguers who have received drug bans since July 25.
