'Bodies' exhibit offers free admission to military

Advertiser staff

BODIES…The Exhibition will honor all five branches of Hawai'i's military by celebrating their respective birthdays with one free admission to active duty service members with valid military ID. Military families and retirees will also be offered a military discount of more than 25 percent off regular admission to tour this exhibition.

The offers are valid for members of each branch of service on the date of each branch's birthday:

U.S. Coast Guard: August 4

U.S. Air Force: September 18

U.S. Navy: October 13

U.S. Marine Corps: November 10

In deference to the U.S. Army (whose birthday was June 14), active duty soldiers will be honored on October 1, commemorating the anniversary of the formation of the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.

"We are honored to recognize the men and women who serve our country and celebrate our Hawai'i military," said Cheryl Mure, director of education at Premier Exhibitions Inc, in a press release.

The exhibition provides an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body. The human specimens in the exhibition are preserved through a technique called polymer preservation. In the process, human tissue is preserved using liquid silicone rubber that is then treated and hardened. The end result is a rubberized specimen, preserved to the cellular level, showcasing the complexity of the body's many bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels and organs. The full-body specimens can take more than a year to prepare.

Tickets for the exhibition can be obtained by logging onto http://www.BodiesTickets.com or purchased directly from the box office at the exhibit. Adult tickets are $26, seniors $24, children (4 – 12) $18 and college students/military with valid ID $19; discounted prices are available to groups. Hours for the exhibition are 9:30 a.m.- to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, go to http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com.
