ARTHUR F. NUGENT JR., 85, of Honolulu, died March 20, 2008. Born in Philadelphia. Retired from the U.S. Navy; a World War II veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor. A crew member on the cruiser Helena when it was sunk by a Japanese submarine in the South Pacific. He spent 12 hours in the ocean until rescued the following day. He later served as a pilot with Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu and with Air America in Southeast Asia. Survived by sister, Mary Louise Nugent; nieces, Ellen Forrest Nugent and Mary Louise Johanneck; grandnephew, Deal Allen Johanneck; great-grandnephew, Derrick Johanneck.
