Two children abducted by a noncustodial parent Thursday in Kailua were returned to state custody yesterday, according to state Human Services officials.

Child Protective Services took custody of Millie Almony-Leong, 7, and Kaimana Almony-Leong, 1. Both children underwent an examination for placement in another foster home.

Department of Human Services information officer Toni Schwartz said the children were found through a tip. Millie was returned to her school in Kailua and her brother to his paternal grandmother foster parent, Schwartz said.

JELLYFISH INVASION MAY PEAK TODAY

This month's box jellyfish influx at Island beaches began yesterday, and the peak of the invasion is expected today, said city Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

"It's been very small this morning," Cheplic said yesterday. "Tomorrow should be the peak."

The influx is supposed to last through tomorrow.

This week's influx comes at an inopportune time for surfers, as surf along south shores is expected to be at or near advisory levels by today. The south swell is expected to last through the middle of the week — about the same time the jellyfish influx ends.
