Holy Ghost festival to be held in Kula

KULA, Maui — Kula's Catholic community will once again host a free feast for the public and other festivities as part of next weekend's annual Holy Ghost Feast.
The event at historic Holy Ghost Mission, 4300 Lower Kula Road, celebrates Pentecost and raises funds for Our Lady Queen of the Angels in Keokea, Holy Ghost Mission in Waiakoa, and St. James the Less Mission in 'Ulupalakua.
The feast will open at 10 a.m. May 10, with entertainment through 3:30 p.m. by Ben Uyetake, Maui Portuguese Cultural Club dancers and others. A Vigil Mass of Pentecost will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a procession led by the Holy Ghost Queen.
An auction from 6 to 9 p.m. will include such items as hotel stays, restaurant meals, lu'au tickets, artwork, horseback riding and other activities, and gift certificates.
Activities on May 11 start with a 9:30 a.m. Mass followed by the Pentecost procession. A meal of laulau, poi and sweet potatoes will be served in four seatings starting at 11:30 a.m. Seatings will be about 45 minutes apart.
A livestock auction will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Throughout both days, there will be food booths, games, a bouncing castle, baked goods and plant sales, and a farmers market. Holy Ghost Church's Portuguese bread and laulau also will be sold.
A Christmas booth, in the parish hall, will sell goods donated by Marmac Ace Hardware and its former Maureen's Gift and Christmas shop, as well as crafts and collectibles.
